The Walsall Wheelbarrow Company is the UK’s only complete wheelbarrow manufacturer, producing every component from pressed steel pans to tubular frames and wheels within its West Midlands facility. Originating in the mid‑1940s with Fred Thacker’s first hand formed steel barrow, the enterprise carried forward his innovations through three generations. Each era brought advancements: from pressed steel pans introduced by his son Les, to fully automated production lines and the pioneering “Barrow‑in‑a‑Box” concept. Today, the company continues to thrive as a family run business, celebrating over 30 years under its current name since 1995, and tracing its lineage back to Thacker barrows from the 1940s. It remains committed to British manufacturing, with around 90 % of wheelbarrow parts crafted in house and an efficient transport fleet ensuring reliable delivery.
